Welcome to the Summer Arts Institute at Le Moyne

Summer Arts Institute Musical Theatre

The Summer Arts Institute is a program that lets you explore the areas of film, music (strings), musical theater, and creative writing, all on Le Moyne鈥檚 beautiful campus. The best part? You can choose to attend one or multiple programs!听

Explore Our Programs

Calling all creative writers! Join us for a half-day creative writing program, structured as a writing workshop, in which student writers will compose poetry, character sketches, short scenes, mini profiles, and flash nonfiction. Each day, there will be writing exercises that encourage student writers to play with language and form as they write strong characters, vivid scenes, and snappy dialogue.

July 8-12
For youth entering grades 7-12
Hours: 9 a.m. – noon
Fee: $170

Get out of the house and up on the stage this summer! Work with professional actors and directors to learn about a variety of aspects of theatre, all while rehearsing for a final performance. Students will work weekdays for two weeks of intensive theatre fun learning from professionals in a first-rate college theatre and scene shop. All levels of experience are welcome!

July 8-19
For youth entering grades 5-12
Hours: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Fee: $495

Join us for a String Fling at a one-week day program on the campus of Le Moyne College! This program offers string students entering grades 4-12 the opportunity to work with some of the top music educators in the Central New York in group classes and ensemble settings. Recreational time and social activities will also be built into the program鈥檚 schedule.

(Note: All students attending program are required to have at least one year of music reading.)

July 22-26
For youth entering grades 4-12
Hours: 9 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Fee: $250

Do you like the connection between music, theater, and dance? Join us for a musical theater intensive at Le Moyne College! This small-group program will give students the opportunity for concentrated training in acting, dance, and singing. Participants will work with local professionals to learn scenes from musicals.

July 29-August 2
For youth entering grades 9-12
Hours: 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Fee: $260

What makes a movie memorable? Come explore how films use the power of images and sounds to appeal to audiences. You will watch a variety of contemporary classic films and discuss what elements make these films so memorable. Then, using Le Moyne’s state-of-the-art recording and editing equipment, participants will collaborate to create their own short films.听
